Cork Branch Events

BirdWatch Ireland Cork Branch organises outings and other events for members and non-members in Cork city and the eastern side of county Cork on a regular basis. The branch also as encourages members and non-members to become involved in local bird surveys and conservation work. Our branch neighbour West Cork Branch covers activities in the western half of the county. We also feature contact details, events and a link to their website here for anyone interested in BirdWatch Ireland events in the western side of the county. Further details of upcoming events are given below.

Sept 16th. Outing to Tacumshin Co. Wexford. Leaving. Cork at 8.00am. Booking essential to car pool. 087 2734975

Sept 25th. “ Birds & Light - from Field Craft to Field Guides from Art to Photography “ a talk by Mike O Keeffe. Venue SMA Hall Wilton 8.00. pm

Oct 23rd. A talk and photo slide show by Charlie Lee. " Birds and Wildlife ". Venue SMA Hall Wilton 8.00. pm

Nov 24th. Branch outing to Harper’s Island starting at 2.00pm until light allows. This is a Joint outing with Tipperary Branch.

One-off outings (e.g. for rare birds) may take place. See Facebook page or branch email for details.

Sunday 25 March: Visit to Timoleague and Courtmacsherry to see herons, divers, Ravens, etc. Meet in Wood Point car park, Courtmacsherry, at 10.00am for car pooling. Leader: Paul Connaughton. (Toilets: Yes)

Wednesday 28 March: Branch AGM, Room 117, O’Donovan’s Hotel, Clonakilty, 7.30pm. Members only.

Throughout April: Outings to west Cork headlands to find migrants when conditions are suitable (could be any day of the week). Email Nicholas Mitchell with your mobile number to receive text alerts.

Peter Wolstenholme, Nicholas Mitchell, Paul Connaughton, Paul Hadland and Mike Cobley will lead outings to the Old Head, Galley Head and Mizen Head when conditions are suitable, which could be any day of the week. Sunday 6 May: Full-day visit to Old Head of Kinsale for spring migrants. Meet at the car park opposite The Speckled Door at 8.30am. Leader: Paul Connaughton. (Toilets: No)

Sunday 13 May: Dawn Chorus Day walk. Meet at Long Strand car park on R598 (5km east of Rosscarbery) at 4.30am. Refreshments afterwards. Leader: David Rees. (Toilets: No)
