Cork Branch Events

BirdWatch Ireland Cork Branch organises outings and other events for members and non-members in Cork city and the eastern side of county Cork on a regular basis. The branch also as encourages members and non-members to become involved in local bird surveys and conservation work. Our branch neighbour West Cork Branch covers activities in the western half of the county. We also feature contact details, events and a link to their website here for anyone interested in BirdWatch Ireland events in the western side of the county. Further details of upcoming events are given below.

Jan 17th " Barn Owls in Munster ". A Talk by John Lusby, Raptor Conservation Officer BWI. SMA Hall Wilton 8.00pm

Feb 3rd Cork Schools Know Your Nature Quiz, Corrin Event Centre Fermoy 8.00pm

Feb 26th outing to Kilcolman Wildfowl reserve and a walk through Doneraile Park. Meet at Doneraile Park entrance at 1.45pm

March 8th A talk by Anita Donaghy Conservation Officer BWI ' The plight of the Curlew '. Corrin Event Centre Fermoy 8.00pm

April 9th Outing to Harper's Island in conjunction with Glounthaune Residents Association. 2.00pm.

Sunday May 14th at 7pm - "Food production and farmland biodiversity". Farm walk on the farm of Donal Sheehan.
Meet at Castlelyons National School car park at 6.50pm.

Sunday 30 July: A stroll around Lough Beg in Currabinny with Paul Moore and friends. Meet at Ringaskiddy at 6.45pm.

One-off outings (e.g. for rare birds) may take place. See Facebook page or branch email for details.

National Heritage Week - Family Event at Rosscarbery
1:30pm Meet at Celtic Ross Hotel Rosscarbery (OSI ref W 286 363; GPS 51.57564, -9.02925) and find out more about the birds that use the estuary on migration and during the winter. No more than two hours.

Old Head of Kinsale – sea-watching and autumn migrants
8:45am Meet at car park before entrance to Old Head Golf Club (OSI ref W 624 407; GPS 51.61821, -8.54191). This event is limited to 20 places so booking is essential.
