Common resident. Summer Distribution Winter Distribution

Rosy/Rose-coloured Starling Sturnus roseus
Rare vagrant.

35 county records involving 38 birds up to the end of 2014. First county record was was one on Cape Clear from the 31st August to the 8th September 1961.

Birds wre seen at the following locatoins: Allihies, Ballycotton, Barley Cove, Cape Clear Island, Cobh, Dursey Island, Firkeel, Galley Head, Lehanemore and Garinish (West Beara), Knockadoon Head, Liss griffin, Marathon Gas Platform (off Cork), Mizen Head, Power head, Old Head of Kinsale, Schull.

Apart from one record of two birds at Garinish on 21st June 2002 all were single birds and most were immature.

Recorded in all months of the year except February, March and April with most records in ther Autumn.

Distribution: a widespread summer visitor to south-eastern Europe, which accounts for less than half of its global breeding range. (Birdlife International)
