Within the last couple of days the chicks have started leaving the cup of the nest and pooping outside it. Before that they would when a parent was present they would point their bum towards them and produce a sealed sac of poop called a feacal sac.The parents take it directly from the chick and remove it from the burrow, thus keeping the nest clean. By now they just poop outside the nest and the parent removes it on their next feeding visit. This is a recording of the live stream from the Sand Martin’s nest burrow 19 in the artificial nesting bank at Harper’s Island Wetlands Nature Reserve.
